Use Case 04 — Drawdown Stress Testing

Know your pain tolerance before the pain.

The stress test

Simulated pain, before real capital samples it.

The distributions answer the questions every drawdown eventually forces:

  • How deep do drawdowns realistically run under these exact rules?
  • How often should defensive gates activate in a normal year?
  • How long do underwater periods last before recovery is typical?

The core idea

How MARS uses this

Drawdown from Equity Peak High routes the account into a gate. The gate then selects the throttle row, caps the maximum risk tier, sets the brake tone, and constrains which management variants are even permitted. Every deployment decision starts by reading this ladder - a good setup cannot override a restricted gate.

How it benefits you

The question 'should I be trading full size right now?' gets an exact answer instead of a mood. Risk compresses automatically as damage grows and re-expands only as capital heals - protecting accumulated gains, not just starting capital, without requiring willpower in the moment.

The seven-gate capital ladder. Each state carries its own brake meaning, tier cap, and risk authority - the marker shows an account operating in Growth.

The live comparison

Bands, not nerves.

When live drawdown arrives, it reads against the simulated bands and the current gate state. A P60 drawdown inside expected duration is normal variance — painful, budgeted, survivable. Drawdown beyond the adverse bands, or gate dwell far above simulation, is structural damage that earns a real investigation.

Modules involved

The stress stack.

The Monte Carlo Lab generates the distributions, Drawdown Percentiles publish the bands, and Drawdown Control plus the gate ladder govern the live response.
