The core idea

How MARS uses this

Every decision in MARS is routed through this hierarchy in order. The plan defines doctrine; gate state defines capital posture; the throttle converts posture into deployment numbers; evidence and diagnostics inform from below; R&D stays sandboxed at the bottom until validated. When layers disagree, the higher layer wins - always.

How it benefits you

The system stays coherent under pressure. A confident setup cannot bypass a damaged gate, a green daily EV cannot outrank drawdown authority, and experiments cannot contaminate live rules. That one constraint eliminates the failure mode that kills most complex trading systems: everything modifying everything.

The prime directive

Production stays clean. R&D stays sandboxed.

The EV Lab, sensitivity tables, scenario profiles, and Monte Carlo tools are research layers. They test whether a rule change is statistically reasonable — but they never rewrite the live production system on impulse. Experimental ideas do not become live authority until validated and deliberately promoted.

Why hierarchy wins

“Everything modifying everything” is where complex systems die.

Each module has a defined role and a defined boundary. A good volatility read cannot expand risk beyond the gate cap. A green daily EV cannot override drawdown authority. A high-confidence setup cannot justify violating capital-state rules. That constraint is the feature.

Conflict resolution

When layers disagree, the higher layer wins. Always.

Architecture is mostly a list of things that are not allowed to happen. A confident setup cannot override a restricted gate. A green daily reading cannot outrank drawdown authority. An R&D variant cannot touch live rules until it graduates through validation. Every one of these prohibitions is a place where a discretionary trader would eventually have negotiated with themselves — and lost. The hierarchy exists so that negotiation never opens.

Failure containment

Modules fail alone so the system never fails together.

Each workbook owns its layer and communicates across defined rails, which means damage is containable: a corrupted journal week degrades one evidence window, not the gate ladder; a miscalibrated volatility coefficient distorts distance math, not capital state. The QA and contradiction layers exist precisely to catch a module drifting out of agreement with its neighbors before its output is trusted anywhere upstream.
