The mechanics
Current depth, max depth, and the band each belongs in.
The read uses two live numbers, not one. Current drawdown: today's distance from the high-water mark. Period max drawdown: the deepest point reached this month — the number the comparison cockpit actually consumes. Each is placed against the simulated drawdown distribution for the equivalent horizon: is this depth inside the median experience, out toward the adverse P90, or beyond the band where governed futures rarely go? The distinction between the two live numbers matters because they can diverge instructively — a current drawdown of −4% after a period max of −16% is a recovery story; the same −4% as the period max is an untested month. The bands read them differently because they are different facts.
