The division
A verdict surface and an evidence surface, with different jobs.
The overlay carries one output: the regime, printed on the chart, alongside the management doctrine it implies. It is deliberately impoverished — a word and a level, with nothing to interpret. The pane carries the underlying geometry: the live volatility reading, its own moving average, and the threshold line the comparison is made against. Everything the overlay reduced to a word is visible there as a relationship between three lines. The pane can therefore be read for nuance the verdict cannot express, and it is the wrong surface to trade from.
The pane is the upstream evidence and the overlay is the committed output. Reading the pane is encouraged; trading it is the error the pairing invites.
